Original Report

On July 17th, 6 people on the move from Afghanistan were pushbacked from Croatia to Bosnia. Three minors and three adults
The father of the children is a former Afghan military officer. He has to flee from the Taliban  based on documentation the taliban found and threaten his life. The group consists of his two brothers, his wife and his two children.
On this day they were prevented 3 times by the Croatian police from going further.
The first time they tried to cross the border in the evening. Two officers in blue uniform intercepted them and said: “I don’t let you in”.

They asked for asylum. The police blocked the way and said: “go back” pointing to the jungle.
They walked again for 2 hours and tried another place. Again, two police officers with light blue uniforms were immediately there and blocked their way.
When they tried the third time, the group was intercepted on Croatian ground by four vans with black uniformed officers.

His guess was that the officers spotted them with drones and knew where they wanted to cross and waited for them.
The vans surrounded them and they were approached from both sides by a total of 16 officers. The group sat on the ground and put their arms protectively around the 3 year old and the 5 year old.
When they asked for asylum this time, the officers started beating them. They kicked the father’s head with their boots and the mother’s back.
‘We sat on the ground and didn’t say anything but they didn’t stop hitting us’.

The father held his child in his arms while being kicked in the head and body by the officers. His daughter screamed: “stop hitting my dad.”

The adults bore injuries all over their bodies.
The officers collected the cell phones and smashed them. When the group asked for water and food, one officer responded: “that’s not my problem. Shut up”.
Then they said: ‘go to Bosnia. When you come back you get a really big problem.’

They returned walking to the Junge to Bosnia.

After the return, the father said, that they are traumatized and the whole family can’t sleep at night because of nightmares. They are afraid of trying to cross the border again.

Further, he said:

“This is now at the forefront of our minds that if we go back there will be big problems. The officer said that we will be finished if we return.”
