Less than a kilometer after having crossed the border, the group was apprehended by 6 or 7 officers, described as “Romanian Police officers”. The respondent saw the Romanian flag on their uniforms and described them as speaking the same language among themselves and not in English.

“They catch us and ask us don’t move don’t stand up stay down and head down”

The officers were addressing the groups in English and reportedly insulted them.

“If you are running, I shoot you and if you come back again I will shoot you”

According to the respondent, the officers beat some of them. At least 12 of the transit group were beaten with batons and feet. The group tried to ask for asylum but, they were told that they are not allowed to obtain papers to remain in Romania.

The officers were in presence of the group for about two hours. After that a van came, the transit group were loaded into it and after a 10 minutes drive, they were brought back to Serbia.
