Original Report

The group, consisting of one single man (the respondent) and a family, all from Afghanistan, left the town of Velika Kladusa at 4 am on the 28th of May. The single man explained that he was pretending to be a part of the family, hoping to avoid physical violence:

“Because if police catch single man, they beat them a lot but they are not violent with families.”

The group crossed the border into Croatia and arrived in Maljevac, Croatia. There, the respondent stated that two policemen in blue uniforms found the group on the road and stopped them. Then two other policemen arrived at the location. These two officers were described as wearing another type of blue uniform.

“They took our telephones, they did not break them but they stole the sim card and threw away the tab that contains the sim card in the telephone. They were really angry with us and rude, they didn’t beat us but they insulted us and our families. They checked our pockets, and they took our money. They stole me €150, the only money I had for survive.”
