The respondent is a 27-year-old Syrian male. He was pushed back with three other people of Syrian nationality from Romania to Serbia on the 31 of May 2022 at 4 pm.

According to the respondent, before entering Romania a Serbian person saw them getting to the border, and tried to attack them with a stick. They ran away and managed to escape, so nothing happened to them. After entering Romania, about a kilometre away from the crossing point, what the respondent described as a ‘police car’ came to them. They asked them to come to the vehicle and took their mobile phone to put them in a bag.

“Normally they are doing like this, they take the mobile phone put it in their bag and give back the mobile phone after entering Serbia”

There were reportedly two Romanian officers wearing a dark blue uniform, no balaclava, and were holding firearms in their belts. The respondent recognized the Romanian flag on their uniform. The car was reportedly a black jeep.

The officers reportedly took their pictures but did not ask for any personal information. According to the respondent, no one asked for asylum. They were then reportedly forced to walk back to Serbia, the car with officers inside driving behind them. Their phones were resituated once at the border and they were reportedly told by the officers to go back to Serbia.
