At 10:40 on 29th of May 2021, four police officers armed with guns and batons raided a building squatted by a group of 35 people on the move near the village of Kuzmin in Serbia. Most of the people residing in the building were men from Afghanistan, some were from Pakistan and others Bangladesh. Most were between 18 and 30 years old, there were a few older men and at least 1 minor.
The police car came hastily through a dirt road leading to the building when a few of the house residents were brushing their teeth outside. 4 police officers came out of the car with batons in their hands and told the group of 5 people outside the house to run. They ran away while the police officers entered the house. They dragged a tent that was placed inside the house next to the entrance outside and destroyed it with batons. The residents described that the officers also damaged things that were inside of the tent. One of the 2 people who were staying in that tent in the days before it was destroyed said: “What hurts me most is that they didn’t care if a person is sick or healthy and destroyed also the medicines like it was some illegal drugs.” While the police officers were damaging the tent, the rest of the people who stay in the house managed to escape. Then, the officers came back inside and reportedly cut the electricity cables on the ground floor. After that, they went outside, spent some 15 to 20 minutes next to their car and then drove away.
