The respondent, a 34-year-old man from Sudan, was standing in a public parking lot near the Pidou Wine Superstore just outside of Calais in Marck, on November 16th, 2023. The respondent reported that he was with 7-8 other people, mostly also from Sudan, and 1-2 people that he assumed were Eritrean.
The respondent reported that while he was waiting in the parking lot, 4-5 people that he identified as uniformed CRS officers pulled up in a marked CRS car. The respondent recounted that the officers got out of the car and threw a smoke bomb at the group of 7-8 people. The respondent and the others in the group ran from the parking lot after the smoke bomb was released. Whilst walking back to his living site with several others from the initial group of 7-8 people, the respondent reported being targeted by four police officers once again, this time using pepper spray.
