On the 17th of March, four people from Afghanistan were detected at the Serbian truck scanner (45.154698, 19.175406) near the Serbian village of Šid.
It was around 7 am when an unknown number of Serbian officers ordered the group to exit the vehicle. The authorities were described as being typical Serbian police; all of them men, and one woman.
Immediately after the group was forced to go outside the truck, the Serbian officers started beating them for what the respondents felt was 10/15 minutes. They described being beaten by the authorities with batons on all parts of their bodies; they also highlighted being hit on their heads.
Subsequently, the respondents were taken to a closed space near the spot of their apprehension, a room close to the scanner. They waited about 5 hours inside the room, without water or food, even though they had asked for it. They stressed receiving as an answer something along the lines of “Why did you come here?” Thereafter, the group was put in a Serbian police van where they spent approximately 10/15 minutes until they arrived at one of the camps.
